Wednesday Whine | Amazing Discontinued Perfumes

In my last post I wrote fleetingly about how I feel about perfume. I love smelling perfume on other people but for some reason it just doesn't smell the same when combined with the oils in my own skin.
I'm an old fashioned girl and I adore Chanel No. 5 but I can't wear it because it reminds me too much of my late mother. Sometimes I'll squirt it into the air when I'm feeling nostalgic but generally the bottle just sits there looking beautiful.
Despite my lack of interest in perfume my head (or nose!) has been turned by two scents over the years...

My first perfume love is Benefit Cosmetics Maybe Baby. Now discontinued. I have about a centimetre left in the bottle that I'm loathe to use for fear of saying goodbye forever!
My second perfume love is Valentino's Rock n Rose, and whilst I can't find confirmation that it has been discontinued, I can't find it in any shops and the lady in Boots told my friend's mum it has been sidelined. There you have it, the lady in Boots said so. It's practically gospel! There is a "pret a porter" version but it's too overpowering for me. It also seems to be available in a gift pack with matching body lotion but it doesn't agree with my sensitive skin, so it's a pretty expensive way to buy perfume! I was in New York recently and braved approaching the Valentino store on Madison Avenue to enquire. They didn't look too happy to see a backpack toting tourist attempting to come through their doors but I managed to glean that I could buy the perfume at Macy's. Macy's told me that there hadn't been a Valentino concession in their store for years. Foiled! Destined to be Rock n Rose-less forever?
My third perfume love is... still to be discovered.
So, what perfumes do you like and why? Any suggestions as to why I can't find something that suits me?

  1. Hello! I found your blog via "A bit of this and that" My signature scent is J'adore.

I will have a think about perfumes for you. All perfumes are different and they smell different depending on how you smell naturally.

    Roxilicious82 @ Simply Roxilicious!

    1. Since I wrote this post I've fallen in love with 'English Laundry' by Christopher Wicks. I think I got it in Birchbox. It's pretty expensive though, naturally! I'm going to check out your blog, thanks for stopping by :)

Rock N rose is there apparently

    1. Aww, thanks so much for that, but it's the Pret-A-Porter version, which I think has a 'darker' scent. I might have a sniff when I'm next out and about and see if it compares though!

  3. No worries. It's hard to find nice perfumes sometimes. I don't know what I'd do if they discontinued J'adore

  4. I had a few bottles and have now ran out. Been looking for months but refuse to pay £90 for a used bottle off ebay. Did anyone find anythung un the last 7 years thats the same? I really think rock and rosenis the nicest perfume I have owned.

Comments are greatly appreciated. I love reading your blogs so please feel free to leave links!
