Review | Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Kiehl's claim that they sell a bottle of their Midnight Recovery Concentrate every minute. With this in mind I'm surprised that in all my time blogging I've never come across a review of any of their products! Kiehl's was always an enigmatic brand and I had never ventured into their stores until I had a poor customer service experience in Space NK in Newcastle and was advised to try Kiehl's by the wonderful #bblogger community on Twitter!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

I think I had always been put off Kiehl's because the store in Newcastle has never had any customers inside when I've walked by - just two or three members of staff in white lab coats staring longingly at the door. Large numbers of staff always put me off going in to a shop because I like to browse before being approached. I persevered and I'm glad I did! I picked up the item I wanted (the rare earth pore minimising lotion) but when I went to pay for it the sales assistant asked if he could check my skin to make sure I was buying the right product. He seemed genuine whereas most places are happy to sell you anything you want to buy, so I let him. He asked me questions about my skincare concerns and advised that the lotion was probably only suited to my T-zone. He then gave me several samples which included the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I was going on holiday the next day so I waited until my return to try the product.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate Ingredients

I used the Recovery Concentrate as prescribed by the sales assistant and rubbed three drops into my palms and fingers then pressed the product on to my face. The smell is lovely - mild lavender undertones which are perfect for before bed. The assistant advised that as my cheeks can get a little dry I might want to moisturise them once the concentrate had soaked in.

Here are the claims Kiehl's make about the Midnight Recovery Oil on their website:
  • One night. A few drops. Younger-looking skin by morning.
  • Replenishes skin with moisture
  • 99.8% Naturally Derived Ingredients
  • Helps to recover radiance by morning
  • Paraben-Free
  • Recyclable glass bottle, dropper and plastic squeeze top in a protective 100% recycled board carton

  • I know this sounds like a contradiction but it somehow manages to have the consistency of an oil without the greasy feeling once it's rubbed in. Two to three drops really is all you need to cover your whole face. I've found that it absorbs quickly and doesn't clog pores. The formula is packed with essential oils, lipids and natural extracts and is paraben free.

    Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Now, on to the million dollar question... does it work? The simple answer is yes, it does - at least it works for me! When I wake up my skin feels smooth and far less blotchy than it used to. After a week of use it hadn't upset my sensitive skin or made my oily T-zone break out in spots. The sample size lasted 8 days and with that in mind I didn't mind investing £36 in the full sized product. When I returned to the store exactly four weeks later the sales assistant remembered me and asked how my holiday was. I bought the full sized product which comes in a dapper glass bottle with dropper and squeeze top which makes me feel like a chemist every evening when I use it!

Overall I would highly recommend this product but with Kiehl's they are happy to give you a sample of any of their products first. Not only that but they also have a 28 Day Money Back Guarantee! Any product that isn't working for you can be returned and refunded. Brilliant! Don't forget to keep the receipt though...

    3. I love that the salesperson gave you samples instead of trying to goad you into buying a product - it shows he really cares! I've always found Kiehl's to be a bit overbudget for me but knowing how long this product would last and finding out about the 28 day money back guarantee just made the brand a little more tempting! I'm not sure lavender oil would be a good ingredient for my sensitive skin though - it tends to be an irritant for the skin.

      1. I suffer from rosacea on my cheeks and this hasn't irritated that at all - in fact when I wake up my cheeks look far less red and blotcy than they used to! :)

    4. This product sounds great! I tend to have blotchy skin too and am always on the lookout for products to help with that - will have to check this out! Oh, and I'm put of by stores with little customers too - the staff follow me around and make me uneasy.. Hehe! xx
