Memory Monday #4

Today's Memory Monday is a little different; the previous incarnations have all been funny snippets of things that happened whilst I was a child that, when I think about, make me smile. Today I'd like to share a memory with you that is far less jovial, but I do hope you'll read it.

Memory Monday #3

I made my acting debut when I was 6 years old playing a smudgy-faced street urchin in my primary school's non-musical rendition of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It was also the final time I ever tread the boards...

Review | Birchbox June 2014

It doesn't matter how many times I tell myself that I won't look at the "hints" or the bloggers preview reviews I always end up peeking and then hoping I end up with the "better" items in my Birchbox. I was lucky again this month so read on to find out what I received!

Food | Lemon cupcakes & giveaway

Nothing says summer like the scent of fresh lemons so I thought I'd share with you the recipe for my favourite lemon cupcakes with fresh lemon buttercream icing - not a Jif lemon in sight!

Review | NUDESTIX

Sisters Ally and Taylor "believe a natural look is a perfect fit for any face" which is why they created NUDESTIX, "a simple collection of easy-to-use makeup crayons that cover all the bases and give you a fresh-faced, nude look." I was alerted to this new brand thanks to Space NK whose Twitter and Instagram accounts started mentioning them back in April. I'm a sucker for anything neutral and multi-use so I was intrigued. I entered Space NK's Instagram competition to win an undisclosed NUDESTIX prize and I was lucky enough to win. I rarely win anything unless I'm the only entrant so I was pretty excited.

Review | Liz Earle Signature Foundation

A few weeks ago whilst wandering the beauty hall at John Lewis in Newcastle I happened upon the Liz Earle counter. A very nice lady tried to sell me some Cleanse & Polish but upon discovering I already use it she tried her hand at selling me some foundation instead. I was late to meet a friend so she wasn't successful but during our five minute chat I became convinced that their lightest shade, porcelain, was the perfect shade for me.

I came home and ordered the foundation online and within three days I received my package.

Memory Monday #1

Yesterday, whilst writing an epically long post about my terrible music choices as a teenager, I triggered all kinds of childhood memories. With this in mind I thought I'd create my own mini-series of blog posts and for the forseeable future I hope to share some of the memories that make me smile, laugh and even cry - welcome to Memory Monday.

Music | An admission

It's no secret that I'm a fan of rock music. There are hundreds of sub-genres within the modern rock music world, from indie and pop punk to glam rock and nu-metal. Personally I'm partial to most styles of rock music and listen to a very wide range of bands and artists. The one thing they all have in common is that they're likely to grace the pages of rock music mags rather than Smash Hits and there's always a guitar involved!

I've got a bit of an admission though - I didn't always have such great taste in music. Oh no, there was a time in the mid 90s where I lost my way somewhat and I became absolutely obsessed with one group in particular. This obsession went far beyond buying their tapes/CDs (remember tapes kids? Possibly not!) Sit back, relax and let me tell you about my musical journey...

Food | Fajita Friday!

I absolutely love Mexican food, from traditional chilli con carne to fajitas and quesadillas to chalupas, I can't get enough of the delicious flavours. As soon as I saw that BzzAgent were running a campaign on behalf of Santa Maria I snapped up the chance to take part.

santa maria fajitas

Santa Maria used to be Discovery Foods and so I was already very familiar with the brand under its old guise. In fact it has always been my "go to" brand for Mexican food products when I'm looking to make fajitas or enchiladas at home.
