Wednesday Whine | Common sayings people get wrong

It's well known that I've got a bit of a short fuse when it comes to the English language. I'm not an expert by any means and I've been known to change words in sentences if I don't know how to spell them, but I like to think that I've got the basics covered. I know the difference between 'you're' and 'your' and I can tell you what an Oxford comma is in a heartbeat.

Like most people I spend a lot of time on the internet and since signing up to Twitter I've noticed a lot of common phrases and words that people misuse, spell incorrectly or simply get completely and utterly WRONG. At first I thought these were isolated incidents; who could actually think 'a blessing in disguise' is 'a blessing in the skies'?! Well, if you put that phrase into the Twitter search bar you'll find the answer is... thousands of people!

Read on for a light hearted look at some of my favourite sayings and words that people get wrong. ALL. THE. TIME. You might just find you're guilty too...

Memory Monday #5

This edition of Memory Monday is about the time I got my first dog.

My family have always had dogs; I was born into a household with an Old English Sheepdog (or Dulux dog as everyone used to refer to him) named Cromby and a pitiful little mongrel called Candy. After Cromby passed away we got another Old English Sheepdog, Boot. I knew that I'd have my own when I moved out. In 2007 my now husband and I bought a house and the day after we moved in we adopted our first puppy - Monty.

What's in my handbag?

I've seen this blogger tag doing the rounds since the day I started reading blogs. It's one of my favourites because I'm such a nosy person!

Since I was old enough to carry a handbag my friends have mocked me for having "everything but the kitchen sink" with me at all times. Hell, if it wasn't so odd looking I'd take my handbag on a night out but instead I'm forced to scale down and take a clutch. Damn you convention!
